For those of us out there, that love horses and love to ride, but just don't have the property to keep one, we need a place to keep them.  There is really only one option, boarding.  Boarding gives the horse owner the ability to own a horse and keep it off-site, at say a horse farm.  There can be many benefits to this option, one being that most farms have a caretaker around to care for the horses.  A lot of farms also give you the ability to chose how you would like the horse cared for.  Here are a few of these terms.  Full board or full care, would be where the farm basically takes full charge of your horse, feeding, watering, and cleaning.  Some farms may offer more or less.  This also often includes a stall for your horse to get them out of the weather.  This is usually the most expensive route to take, but at the same time, requires the least amount of time on you, the owners part.  Next we have self-care or partial board, which may or may not include a stall, again depends on the farm.  Usually the owner of the horse is required to partake in the cleaning process with this plan.  Which for some horse owners, allows them to get closer to their horse, on a personal level.  If you live close to the boarding facility, this can be a good way to save a few bucks.  Lastly there is what is often called field board.  Which would be where your horse is kept in the field but has access to run-ins, sheds, or field barns.  These horses are not usually kept in stalls, but stay outside.  Often this is the cheapest way to go.  for those of you that don't already own a horse, it can be an expensive hobby.  This should be taken into consideration before purchasing a horse.  The major topics of owning a horse would be the time you can devote, the financial burden, be prepared for large vet bills, then there is the farrier or blacksmith, as well as blankets, saddles, pads, bits, reins, and of course a helmet to protect that head of yours!   Many people jump right in, not knowing what they have gotten into then wind up having to give the horse up, either because they are overwhelmed or they can't afford it.
